Columns (Sega Genesis)
Sega in the late 1980's had a great run of consoles from the Mega Drive, Mega Drive II (Genesis) and the Saturn. Released in 1989 on the Mega Drive II was Columns and players have to put down rectangles of three squares into patterns without reaching the top of the game board which ends the game. Players can shuffle the three square combination as much as they like until the rectangle either hit the bottom of the game board or hit other squares. To eliminate squares, a combination of three or more squares has to be achieved either straight or angled. As your score rises and your level count goes up, the game gets faster and the higher up on the game board you go, the faster the game gets as it tries to end your run. Memorable is the soundtrack, although the game track is on a loop, it is a track that sticks in your mind for years or even decades. The game is addictive, you will find yourself wanting to survive as long as you can and get a high score only to instantly try and beat that score. Rating 5 out of 5.
