Wargame: AirLand Battle
Wargame: AirLand Battle is one of several games in the Wargame series. You can play as either NATO or Soviet Pact forces in single or multiplayer battles. In single player (solo) there are four scenarios to play out with both sides have two scenarios. Western Europe is carved up into different sections with each part held by your forces generating points to bring in reinforcements or actions to prevent the enemy from disrupting your forces through air strikes and special forces use.
As NATO, you got a selection of British, American, West German and French units to choose from, in the above screenshot, NATO is blue and started the scenario in Kiel and moved a British unit into Copenhagen. When there is a battle in a section, the map changes from one of Europe to one of the local area which is cut up in different sections, these sections give you points so you can deploy more of your available forces into battle.
If parachuting or amphibious landing into an enemy zone, you get one section in the middle of the map, this is bad because you got no air support, you need to take the areas that show the arrows (To Kiel, Copenhagen etc).
A battle ends if either your command vehicles on the map are destroyed, the enemy destroys enough units to gain points to win the battle or the time runs out. (see right side of above screenshot). Each unit is worth points which you have to spend to use them but if you lose a unit that points go on to the tally of enemy so if you spent 125 on a tank and that tank is destroyed 125 points goes on the enemy scoreboard. Units available in the game are soldiers, tanks, jeeps, short and long range artillery, anti-aircraft missiles, anti-aircraft guns, fighters, bombers, helicopters, recon jeeps, recon helicopters, recon soldiers and more. The stronger and fresher your force is, the harder the enemy has to work to win, the weaker your force is the less forces they have to destroy to win. It should be noted that once you lose forces you cannot get them back so if you lose 4 fighter bombers you don't get to use them down the track and that may be bad if your enemy force still has planes in the sky. This game can get addictive, it can also get annoying as it has to be remembered that superior forces don't mean much if they can be picked off at long distance by artillery, missiles or AA guns or hitting in the safety or buildings and trees.
