Showtime! (PC)

Showtime! is a text and pictures game about the Movie Industry and was made by Myrtilus Entertainment. The game while sounding simplistic is not as you can manage many aspects of your film studio, examples of this are that you can create films, create actors, purchase film rights, upgrade your studio and more. Say you buy a script, you can alter the title and the plot summary, then you order the screenplay to be written and you can change the genre and sub genre and select the level of stunts too. Directors, Producers and Actors can have ratings up to five stars, each director has five areas of expertise you have to consider and actors have five of their own for you to go through and consider. After the first draft is written you can order a partial or complete rewrite of the script to boost the aspects of the screenplay and up the star total. After the Screenplay, Director, Producers and Actor(s) are hired, you can set a budget and then the film is production ready for you to get a new film ready. 'Offices' is an important part of your studio as you can see how good your studio technology is, upgrade it if you got the money, 'Staff' is to set the budget for your various film departments from makeup to security and 'Bank' is when you need to get or repay a loan.

A cool feature of the game is the various awards that happen over the course of a year and all the awards shows have different categories. As you can see below, there are four candidates for 'Best Picture' and the winner went to 'The Executive' from Metro-Silver-Slayer which is a play on Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Windows 10 users may find that there is no text in the game, this is because Microsoft changed the fonts compared to past editions of Windows and so fonts must be downloaded, Mytilus Entertainment copped some flack for the missing text but it should be noted that this game was released long before Windows 10 came on the scene, way past the usually shelf life of games that get updates, a solution can be found in this steam thread. Overall, it is a fun yet complicated game, it is not like The Movies but it holds its own Rating: 4 out of 5.
